Mistborn Review/Random Thoughts.

Well, I finally read it. After hearing what such a great book it was, after seeing it everywhere, and after finding that I no longer had a to-read list, I succumbed to the urge to read the Mistborn trilogy. It was awesome. Granted, I have yet to read the second and third due to pesky library hold lists, but the first was epic!! I have so much good stuff to say about this book and honestly not that many bad things. Okay, first the review, then random thoughts.

Summary: Courtesy of Google.
In a world where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, an evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. The future of the empire rests on the shoulders of a troublemaker and his young apprentice. Together, can they fill the world with color once more?

First Impressions:
I was confused by the opening, and I feel like the point it made could have been worked in other ways. I did like the intro to Vin though. Kelsier is a charming troublemaker with a good heart. I liked the touch of ash falling from the sky. It made the world stand out from all the other worlds that I have read about. The whole political aspect felt very authentic, and I liked how it had that real world aspect. There was romance, but what I really liked about it was that it made sense. I'll go more in depth in a sec. The magic was what really set this book apart for me. It was what made me really like it.

Overall, this was a well written book with great characters and even better setting. It all felt very unique, but not like the author was trying too hard. It was awesome. I give it a four star rating.
See? Four out of five.
Random Thoughts__________________________________________________________________

Lets start with the core of what made this book stand out to me. The Magic. What I liked so much about it was that is wasn't magic. It wasn't a mystical force that was almost forgotten about. It had different kinds of magic, some common, some not. Allomancy was the most common. Allomancy is essentially where one can take a metal: i.e. iron, zinc, brass, bronze... And they can "burn" it. It enhances some ability that they already posses, hearing, strength, awareness, and many others.
Allomancy is so cool because it feels so real, like it could happen a bit more plausibly. It was just epic.

Now onto the romance. It wasn't overbearing or flooffy (really? That's the word you chose? Flooffy?). It had purpose and direction. It furthered the plot and was sensible. That is the romance that I like, when it serves a purpose and isn't there to just be there. Yep.

It would be pretty cool to be an Allomancer. And to be a Mistborn... I really want one of those capey thingys.

And that ends the random thoughts.

The Heat Made Me Do It

This summer so far has been a sunny one. But the other day I went outside for five minutes, and I felt like a melting Popsicle. When these kinds of days swing around, I am very grateful that I have a fan and a glass of ice-water at my disposal.

Everyone has all these crazy stories about heatwaves. Like way back when they were younger, and they did crazy things to get cool.  Well, I just do crazy things in general during the heat.

Story time: One very hot summer morning, my mother asked me to take out the recycling. I agreed, grabbing the bag and making my way towards the door. I opened our front door, my confidence and joy high.
That's an understatement.
Well, as soon as I opened the door, our neighbors across the street were leaving their house as well. We were both directly across from each other and we both locked eyes. I froze because of what I was wearing. On very hot nights I wear a pair of pajama shorts that are really short, and I usually stay in my pajamas all day. So that particular day I was wearing those short shorts that I only feel comfortable wearing around the house. Well, I felt a little bit embarrassed to be seen in those shorts, so I panicked, and I...kind of shut the door. So pretty much I opened the door, saw them (and they saw me) and shut the door. Uhg!! Can I die now?
That is just one of the many horrifying stories from my past.

One day I'll end up doing something even more insane, and I'll have to go to court, and my best defense will be, "The heat made me do it!" It'll be a disaster.

So, this post is my farewell to the sunniness of summer, may it have not brought you embarrassing stories to tell your grandchildren one day.

Infinity Dreams...

I forgot to post this a month back, so I guess I'll post it now.

Yay!! I was tagged again!! I love it when I'm tagged. Plus, this is a really cool one. Thank you so much, Olivia. I love doing tags, and they're made 48% more fun when I am actually tagged.
Anwho, let's get down to business to defeat the Huns.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Quick note. For some reason, the name infinity dreams reminds me of a candle or something.

1.  Thank and link to the blogger/s who nominated you.
2.  Answer the 11 questions
3.  Nominate/tag 11 bloggers and ask them 11 questions

Do you have a hero (someone who has inspired you)?
I actually have quite a few. But one person who has really inspired me is C.S. Lewis. He not only wrote one of the greatest classics of all time, but he also glorified God's name in doing so. That is what I hope to do.

Books touch us all:  which book or story has touched you in particular?
SO many. The main one being Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I know, it may be a lame answer, but when I first discovered it... It was like magic to me. I was a little nine year old who was extremely obsessed with books, and extremely impressionable, these books gave me a new outlook on things. To this day, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is still my favorite series. Along with that series, a couple books that have touched me are...
-Peter Pan.
-The Chronicles of Narnia
-A Series of Unfortunate Events
-Nathaniel Fludd: Beastoligist.
-The Hermit Thrush Sings

What was one of the most ridiculous things you have done in front of a stranger?
Me and my sister hid in a shower (in Ikea) and scared some strangers.

Do you have any pastimes or hobbies?
I like to write, read, play piano, and...oh gosh, what are my hobbies?? I enjoy staring up at the sky pointlessly and wondering bizarre things. I can't think of anything else.

What is a book or movie that you fangirl over excessively?
Let's see...I fangirl about a lot of shows, but excessively?? Robin Hood, Merlin, and Doctor Who. Two out of three have ended, so I am heartbroken on top of fangirling. Not to mention the way Merlin and Robin Hood ended. Oh boy... Well, that's a rant for another day.

Aww, I really miss Allen and Will. Especially Allen, know. *sobbing*
What are some of your life's goals/dreams (say as little or as much as you like…)?
My ultimate life goal is to live for God and do something to change the world for Him.
What I hope my future to look like is I want to graduate college, get published, and travel the world. Somewhere along the way I'll probably get married and have kids, maybe.
We'll see what God has in store for me. :)

What is something you wished you were better at?
That is so easy. Singing and drawing. I've always wanted a good voice, but to be honest, I sing anyway.
And drawing... I have a friend who can draw really well. She once tried to show me how to draw something, but I failed utterly and completely. I wish that I could draw as well as she could, but...we can't all be brilliant.

What character from a book or movie do you love?
Once again, so many. I'll just pick a random one.
Elinor Loredan.

This is one of my favorite quotes about books.
I feel as if that is what I'm going to end up as when I am older. I find her so fun and wonderful. She is stern and guarded, but incredibly strong and brave.

What character from a book or movie do you hate?
Umbridge. I didn't even have to think about it. It was an immediate reaction. She is just the most despicable character ever.
Look at that awful face, that awful smile, and that awful shade of pink. What is it about that shade of pink that really just annoys me? When I read the books, I despised her, but when I watched the movies...she just bugged me so much. I wanted her gone. That actress who played her is very good.

Have you ever cried when reading a book?
Uh...yeah. You might want to get comfortable, the list is longer than I care to admit.
-The Titan's Curse
-The Last Olympian
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-Waiting for Normal
-Stay Where You Are and then Leave
-The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
-The Hobbit
-The Cay
The list goes on.

Where would your dream vacation be?
It wouldn't be in one place. It would be traveling all across Europe. Though if I had to pick one spot, I would say Greece, Ireland, or Morocco (I know it's not in Europe). Something about Morocco has just captured my fancy.

Okay, now on to creating eleven new questions.

-What do you aspire to be?
-What is the last book you read without skipping any parts?
-What is the most random thing you have ever watched?
-Shark diving, bungee jumping, or sky diving?
-What is something you've always wanted to try, but have been too scared to?
-What is the best Disney movie to come out since Disney's Golden Age?
-Who is a character that you really relate to?
-What's your most embarrassing childhood memory?
-Pirates or Ninjas?
-Did you sleep with a stuffed animal when you were younger?
-What's your favorite cereal?

Now, I feel like I should tag someone, but the amount of people that I know in the blogger world is surprisingly short, and 50% of those people don't even read my blog. Oh bother.
Well, I will leave this open for anyone who really wants to take the challenge of doing it. Leave a comment if you are going to do it, and I will be sure to check out your answers and proceed to stalk your blog for years to come. Just kidding...halfway.

And that's it, boys and girls. Thanks for reading. And thanks again for tagging me, Olivia. It's been a pleasure.

I have officially converted my family to nerdom. Feel free to applaud.
It started out with me insisting that my sister watch Harry Potter with me. As we watched it, the rest of my family gravitated towards the couch, fascinated and curious about these movies. Even my dad, who is not...a fan of fantasy watched the movies. We also have recently re-watched all six Star Wars movies. And we just got the three Lord of the Rings movies from the library. But the real prize jewel in my crown was last night in the car. My mom and I were getting home from errands, and I don't remember how it came up, but we had a debate about Marvel vs. DC, Superhero vs. Superhero. I was proud, needless to say. For so long it's been just me freaking out about the Marvel Universe, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, but now, I have converted my family.

Had to throw in one of these. :)
Anywho, that's all.

The Universe Hates Me

Today I have a little story for you. It's the story of a girl who had one desire in life. That desire wasn't to grow up to me rich and famous, or to one day settle down and have a nice family, or not even to publish a book. No, this desire was something nice and practical. To see Wicked.

Well, I don't have enough money right now for the tickets. That's okay, I can deal with that. I am a little disappointed, but I can see it next year! Then...oh boy, then I start seeing the posters everywhere. I went for a walk one day, and I'm not being funny, I saw at least one poster on every phone pole. That's okay, I can deal with it. I bite my lip and look the other way. Then...then my brother shows me a picture of someone he knows that went to see it. My sister shows me a picture of a family that she knows who went to see it. And then suddenly, it is every commercial on Youtube.

You see? But that's not it, oh no. A week after all this happened, after I was finally accepting that I wasn't going to see it, a neighbor walks up to me and says the most hilarious thing.
We exchange pleasentries, you know, the usual stuff, and then out of the blue she says, "Have you ever heard of Wicked? My husband and I won tickets to it. I had never heard of it before, but when we went, it turned out to be really good! Have you heard of it?"

Beach Days

The title says it all. This last weekend my family and I went to the Oregon Coast to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea. Actually we went for an annual family reunion, but...close enough. We've been doing these family reunions forever since 197-something.  They are always a highlight of my year.

The drive seemed to go on forever. And because of traffic, a normally four to five hour drive took eight hours. Eight hours!! We got to the beach house at 10pm. Our beach house is amazing. It has roof access, so every evening I would go up there and sit, watching the sunset, writing, or just chilling. It was so peaceful. On Saturday we had our usual crab and corn feast with pasta salads, french bread, and so much more food. As usual, there was dancing, a beach bonfire, and a reeeally late night. I don't want these beach vacations to ever stop. :) Most family reunions (in my experience) have a ton of second cousins three times removed that have just moved from Belgium or Romania, but our family reunions have always been small and everyone knows everyone. The most obscure relative there was a great-aunt. I wish that we could have these beach vacations more often.

My Latest Obsession

Okay, I'm going to start out by saying that I feel like a ripoff. I have gotten most of the shows I watch or have watched from a certain person. Lets make a list, shall we?
The Flash
BBC Robin Hood (I think)
Doctor Who

Not to mention countless music recommendations.
Peter Hollens
Taylor Davis
Jo Blankenburg
Adrian von Ziegler
Hans Zimmer
The list goes on.

So I am hesitant to share this next paragraph, especially because the person might be reading this.

I have started a delightful TV show called...
Image result for heroes
My parents watched this show when I was little. It was too mature for me when I was younger, but it is epic!! Not to mention a certain Jess Mariano is in it! Though he looks so old!
Look at him being all philosophical!!

And guys, guess what?!
Look familiar?
Yes, it is our beloved Nine!! You can imagine my reaction when I saw him.

Anywho, long story short, I feel like I cheap rip-off of this person, but I don't mean to be. And I have a feeling I will be binge watching Heroes. ;)

Headers Galore

I'm sure you can guess my the title what this post is about. That's right, I have been obsessively making headers for the past few days. I now have seven new headers that I am really happy with. Picmonkey is seriously the best. My first header  was nothing short of awesome at the time, but as I've seen other headers and started learning just how big the possibilities are... Well, I needed some new headers that could compete, even if they get last place, in the grand universe of personalized blog titles. Here it is, the big unveiling.

This is only one of ten headers that I will be showing off in the next few months. And I think it's a heck of a lot better than my first one. :)

What do you think? Drab or fab? ;)

New Bunny!!

Today my brother brought home a new rabbit. When he first came in with the box, I expected the rabbit to be a full grown, normal-looking rabbit. But when I saw the little black and silver thing hiding in the corner of the box, I couldn't believe it. She was so tiny, and so docile. I immediately named her Jasmine and declared that she was my favorite (excluding the baby rabbits).

Look at how adorable she is!!
I'm re-watching Agents of Shield, and it's so weird to see everyone before things got complicated and betrayal became something on everyone's mind. FitzSimmons is psychically linked, and Skye is still in awe of the new exciting world of S.H.I.E.L.D.  It also hurts seeing them all happy knowing what comes next. I'm having fun indulging my nostalgic side. I'm going through my fandoms. Pretty soon I'll re-watch all of Nine's episodes. Then I'm going to re-watch the Harry Potter movies. Bethany agreed to finally watch them too. So that'll be cool. :)

My sister got her first job a couple days ago. It was so exciting because she has really wanted this. To be honest, I'm freaked out. I mean, my brother is going to college, my sister is getting a job, and I am a teenager (when did that happen??). It's insane because I remember just a couple years ago when I barely even had to think about college. It was something way away in the distance, but now, it's less than 5 years away. That's scary. And with my sister's new job, I'll be seeing a lot less of her. That really sucks. I mean, she's my best friend! I'm going to miss her. With her juggling school, work, and her hobbies, that doesn't leave a whole lot of time to chill out with her little sister and watch Gilmore Girls.

July Favorites

Well, it's the end of the month, and with that comes my Favorites post. Is this completely unsolicited? Anywho, here goes.

Image result for mistborn

This book is one that I was excited to read. I won't say much about it because I plan on doing a review. But I will say this. I enjoyed it greatly.

As I have recently become enamored with the Tinkerbell franchise, I have become equally obsessed with the soundtrack. My favorite songs are Float and Strange Sights. They are so fun, but have a lot of emotion behind them. It's the perfect mix of whimsical and something a bit...more.

Since I have been writing so much, I've been developing a character that I have grown to adore. At first I thought he was...definitely flawed, but he's now verging on charming rapscallion. Griffen. He has a bit of a Peter Pan complex. Even though he is almost twenty, he acts as if he is fourteen without a responsibility. I do have a ball writing about him.
I am so glad for this part. We got new tea!! I got so many new flavors. I am so excited to try them all. I have Orange Spice, Moroccan Mint, Lemon Ginger, etc.  When it starts getting cold again, I'm going to be very excited to have that to drink. Whenever I think of tea, I imagine myself by a fire with a book or a notebook, sipping a mug of steaming tea. Of course I have never once done that, but I enjoy the picturesque nature of it.
For my mother's birthday, we made homemade orange chicken. It was really good, but it wasn't as unhealthy as some of the other store bought orange chicken.
TV Show
I actually don't have a new one. Though I have been watching some re-runs of Agents of Shield. It was before...everything awful happened. Other than that I haven't really watched a whole lot of anything. I've been focusing more on productive things.

My sister and I went to see this in theaters. I expected it to be good - it's Pixar, for heavens sake - but I didn't expect it to be so charming and infectiously hilarious. It was so worth the money to see it. When it comes out to DVD, I want to buy it.

Side note:
When I saw the father's Anger, all I could think about was John Watson's mustache.

And I think that wraps it up.
